Municipalities in Tunisia: The limited role of the Private Prosecutions & the Need for an Elected Administration

The municipality is a key pillar of local development. It represents a practical exercise of local democracy, through the election of local councils that reflect the wishes and aspirations of the citizens in a given region or area. It is the nearest service to the citizens, and the decisions taken by the municipal councils are local, independent, and meet the requirements and priorities of the region, in contrast to the ones taken by the central authorities that primarily take a general nature.
