About the ASSF  ▬

Established in Tunisia in 2011 amidst the profound historical and social transformations sweeping the country, the Applied Social Sciences Forum (ASSF) is a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to bridging the divide between academic theory and lived societal reality.

The Forum operates on the firm conviction that the social sciences must not remain confined to university lecture halls. Rather, their methodological tools and analytical frameworks ought to be applied empirically to diagnose and address complex socio-economic challenges. Through rigorous scientific research and in-depth empirical studies, the Forum aims to deconstruct critical phenomena such as unemployment, marginalization, and regional developmental disparities.

In this context, the Forum extends its role beyond offering analytical perspectives, providing datasets, and formulating strategic policy recommendations for decision-makers and public policy frameworks. Its field activities directly engage the most dynamic segments of society, with a primary focus on supporting and empowering youth as the principal drivers of sustainable developmental change. This vision is operationalized through continuous mentorship in designing and implementing participatory and innovative initiatives, building leadership capacity, and fostering active civic engagement and public participation.

Furthermore, the Forum strives to generate a holistic societal dynamism by establishing open dialogue platforms and effective partnership networks that unite academic researchers, civil society organizations, and both the public and private sectors. Ultimately, the Forum seeks to translate scientific knowledge into actionable initiatives that contribute to building a more cohesive, equitable, and resilient society capable of confronting contemporary challenges and shaping the future.

Furthermore, it analyzes the declining cognitive returns among the "Fragile-Tech" generation resulting from quantitative expansion and a culture of imagery, proposing a reconciliatory framework between educational institutions and local communities to overcome inertia and inaction.

The Skill Deficit: Brain Drain, Risks, Opportunities, and Probabilities

This study examines the structural phenomenon of brain drain across medicine, engineering, and academia—an crisis exacerbated by the pandemic through systemic push factors and wage disparities. Migration and Return Pathways in Tunisia: Between Structural Challenges and Investment Opportunities

Drawing on the "Tunisia-HIMES" survey data (December 2022), this research demonstrates that the return migration of Tunisian nationals from host societies such as France, Libya, and Italy transcends traditional frameworks, emerging instead as a complex sociological trajectory encompassing skilled professionals, youth, and heads of households. Despite persistent socio-economic integration barriers and structural unemployment, returnees constitute a vital catalyst capable of driving economic investment and regional development.
