The Applied Social Sciences Forum has organized, on May 24- 25, 2013 the first preparative meeting for the official launch of the Arab –Trans. The latter is a research project that aims at studying the socio-political changes in the Arab World. Several organizations and institutions were present in Djerba in order to draft the project’s broad lines, and develop a roadmap and specific timeframes .This project is sponsored by the European Commission and is coordinated by the University of Aberdeen. A number of countries were represented in this meeting; for instance, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Ukraine, Italy, England, and Spain.

The Djerba meeting was the first contact meeting that precedes the official launching of the project in a press conference on June 6 in the European Parliament in Brussels. The meeting revolved around the main points and themes that the study will cover, and the effective means to insure the adequate conduct of the survey in different regions. It has established the general structure and the major axes of the questionnaire .The first draft should be presented soon through the assistance of the Arab Barometer and World Value Survey. The study will address several themes including politics, media, youth, economy, Security, etc.

This ambitious project will last for approximately two years. It will be linking different organizations and research centers in the Arab World and the European Union.  The ArabTrans project is an important connection for different participants, especially the Arab peoples.
